Rabih Hage is presenting the work of Aki Kuroda, one of the great artists at work today, in his first exhibition in London for 12 years. The objects Kuroda creates grow out of his paintings, committed to bright colours and strong, linear designs. They are a mix of rational functions with surrealist shapes; their aesthetic is tied to emotional experience. The close connection between these designs and his pure artworks represent another form of Kuroda’s continual exploration of the cross-over between painting and other art-forms. Kuroda’s work on theatre design and architectural installations has picked at the fine seam between the two apparently separate disciplines with striking results. This is the first in a series of collaborations that Rabih Hage will exhibit over the next year.
