Guests gathered with anticipation inside the B&B Italia showroom in London, as the new face of the Bambole ’07 was dramatically unveiled. On 14 March, nearly 500 attendees came to celebrate the re-launch of Mario Bellini’s classic seating collection, Le Bambole, after 35 years. As partygoers sipped their cocktails and nibbled on canapés, videos and photos were showed of the original campaign. At the press forum preceding the party, photographer Oliviero Toscani foreshadowed the differences that he used with the new images of fully clothed twins, as opposed to the previous controversial photographs of bare breasted model Donna Jordan. Both were meant to draw attention and it was evident from the audience’s reaction that the new images had delivered.
Bambole ‘07 is a soft seating system defined by its single cushion that envelopes the sitter. With no apparent support, feet or traditional armrests, the Le Bambole has an internal frame surrounded by a cushion and containing durable fabric. Bellini has slimmed down the shape to emphasise the elegant lines and has included new distinct fabric finishes. It seems Bambole ’07 will prove just as popular and fun as its debut!
