Project details

As part of its PR campaign for Jura, Camron created a Writer’s Retreat Initiative which would draw on the literary heritage of Jura and its famous connection with George Orwell. Three writers of international stature would each go to the island for a month to recharge their creative batteries – one from the UK, one from the USA and one from Scotland. The programme was launched at the legendary National Arts Club in Gramercy Park with writer Will Self who had been chosen as the first writer in residence. This eloquent, cutting edge thinker acted as a beacon to national and international media who connected with the integrity of the programme. A front page story in The New York Times Arts Section was syndicated in the International Herald Tribune and subsequently picked up by influential media outlets including The Sunday Times, The Today Programme – BBC Radio 4, Newsnight – BBC Scotland, GQ Online and The Scotsman.
