The Emperor Hadrian transformed the Roman Empire from AD 117-138, ruling over a vast territory across Europe, North Africa and Middle East. A superb exhibition, which opened last week at the British Museum, takes us through his life, love and lasting legacy. His keen interest in architecture is a dominant theme as is his controversial relationship with a young male Greek lover, Antinous. The colossal statues are mesmerizing and a model of his most iconic achievement, the Pantheon in Rome, shows us his passion for design and influence in the ancient world. This exhibit is so well edited and visually engaging.
Au Nom de la Rose is situated at 23 Gloucester Road, this florist adds a colourful boost to any passer by. The first shop opened in Paris in 1991, where their florists are trained and then dispersed throughout the world. Dealing only with roses the talent of each floral artist is apparent the moment you walk in the door when you are hit with an irresistible aroma and a sea of bright colours. Perfume, Rose jam and candles are also available adding to its uniqueness. The free gift wrapping is charming with your very own rose and a little bag of petals. If you need a little gift or just cheering up, it is well worth a visit.

If you are passing the Royal Festival Hall., take a look at VOLUME, a project originally commissioned by the V&A and conceived by United Visual Artists with a musical collaboration with production company onepointsix (masterminds behind Massive Attack). When walking around the installation your movements create different patterns of light and sound. VOLUME invites you to consider your relationship and interaction with fellow participants to create a ‘performance’. Winning the D&AD Yellow Pencil last year and included in the ‘Designs Of The Year’ show at The Design Museum, it is well worth a visit.
The new Tom Ford store in Milan takes your breath away. As you walk in the door, you feel you are in a home rather than a store and get immediately seduced by the fragrance bar. German artist Anselm Reyle chose the indugent chairs and sofas and each floor showcases different collections. It is no surprise that Tom Ford has dressed Daniel Craig in the new Bond film “Quantum of Solace” and we admired the brocade silk robes and ended up at the top of building which culminates in a rooftop garden. The store is located in Via Pietri Verri.
Judith and Ros had their first SNOG the other day and were pleasantly surprised by the experience! This brand new shop in South Kensington opened in June 2008. It sells delicious tubs of frozen yogurt (no fat, no artificial sweeteners) with assorted fruit and nut toppings. There’s even a ‘Naughty SNOG’ with chocolate brownies too. We sat on little plastic stools around a small shiny table in this bright and colourful place and felt rather pleased with our find – in a wicked sort of way.
