Last week, I attended the inaugural showing of the Vanity Fair Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery. The stunning collection of 150 photos showcase the skills of Vanity Fair’s contributors and its two principal photographers, Edward Steichen and Annie Leibovitz, whose haunting photos all share a quiet and close understanding of her subjects. Don’t miss the stunning portrait of Jean Harlow by George Hurrell from 1934.

Pia and I decided to visit the recent Stockholm Furniture Fair. This was Camron’s first time at the Fair and we had no idea of what to expect but it proved to be a very worthwhile experience. Many of the big brands were evident such as Flos, B&B and Vitra but for us the real joy of the Fair was that we got to see many Scandinavian brands that never make it to Milan or the other international design shows. Like London, the Stockholm fair had a lot of off-site events, our favourite being the installation by the Swedish design Quartet Front – a series of mock wooden furniture in a copse of fake pine trees. Faketastic!

Last Friday I attended the press conference for La Maison Tropicale. Saved from the jungle of Brazzaville and brought to the banks of the Thames comes a legendary tropical villa. This prototype Modernist house was designed in the Fifties by French architect Jean Prouvé. The “flatpack” iconic building is shown in Britain for the first time by the Design Museum in partnership with Tate Modern. From today (5th Feb) you can visit historic piece of architecture. The exhibition; ‘Jean Prouvé – The Poetics of the Technical Object’ is showing at the Design Museum until 13 April.

Maison & Objet

Camron recently visited Maison & Objet in Paris, the key international event for trends and decoration. A truly unique platform for buyers all over the world, the seven enormous halls were packed with over 3000 brands showcasing their new collections. We particularly liked the ‘Inspirations Houses in Wonderland’ exhibits, designed by Elisabeth Leriche, François Bernard and the NellyRodi Style agency, each of which offered up unexpected and bizarre aesthetics. From the latest beautiful fabrics to unique signed pieces, and state-of-the-art design, the fair had a superb atmosphere and offered fascinating insight into what’s in store for 2008 and beyond.
