(Things we're doing and stuff we like)

Skin and Bones explores the growing overlap between fashion and architecture, the basic idea is that both buildings and clothing are a means to protect the body, but this exhibit discusses how designers and architects have gone further utilising today’s advances in technology and fabrics. Several designers really stand out in communicating this message such as Hussein Chalayan with the convertible skirt/table and Shigeru Ban Architects with the Curtain Wall House in Tokyo. It is amazing to think what we could be wearing or living in, in a few years time.

After reading all the hype about Alan Yau’s latest creation, we had to give it a try! Upon entering, one has the opportunity to view the kitchen through a pink glass pane before entering into a lovely warm space that could be described as a louche Wagamama. The friendly staff are dressed in t-shirts that say Take Me to the Moon and the food is delivered hot and fresh. At £3.50 a plate, it’s definitely not one to miss!

I can not remember the last time I went to an exhibit that was so interesting, fun and exciting. Ten artists have been given their own space to transform how they wish both inside and out at the Hayward Gallery for its 40th anniversary summer show. I don’t want to give too much away as every room was a complete surprise for me and I loved it, but my favourite was the exploding room. The exhibition runs until August 25th

Posted by Neil Byrne 02 Jun Fifteen Cornwall

Sitting atop the cliffs overlooking the surfer haven of Watergate Bay, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall comes as a welcome respite after a day of cliff walking. Decorated in a ‘graffitied’ modern style the restaurant serves amazing Italian inspired food using locally sourced produce. Yet there is more to Fifteen than fantastic food. Like Jamie’s London restaurant, it provides local young people with the opportunity to develop careers in the restaurant industry. So you can eat, drink and enjoy the incredible views out to sea knowing that you are helping the local community. Pukka as Mr Oliver would say!
